One of the world’s finest brass bands, The Fairey Band presents a spectacular concert of music and animation, performing a brass band arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition to accompany animated interpretations of Mussorgsky’s masterpiece.
Under the baton of Scottish-born guest conductor and Professor of Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music, Mark Heron, the band will perform Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, transcribed for brass by Elgar Howarth.
The animations, created by Ion Concert Media with USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, use Mussorgsky’s musical response to Hartmann’s visual images – paintings, drawings and designs – to produce an immersive creative experience of rich fantasy, whimsy and adventure. This will be its first screening in Europe.
As part of the same concert, the band’s Principal Cornet, Dundee-born Iain Culross, will perform Alexander Arutunian’s virtuosic and energetic Trumpet Concerto.
Audiences can also enjoy Berlioz' Carnival Romain, arranged for brass band. The work has great historic significance for the band, who won the British Open in 1979 performing it.
