Music in the Cathedral
The choir and Director of Music of Perth Cathedral St Ninian's are delighted to host two evenings of church music contributing to the Festival and liturgical calendars.

Sunday 25 May 2025
On Sunday 25 May, a service of Choral Evensong takes place at 4pm, sung by the Cathedral choir.
The Choral Evensong features Responses by Richard Ayleward, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B by Tertius Noble and the anthem 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me' by Sir Edward Elgar.
The service will be followed by an organ recital at 5pm by the Cathedral's Director of Music Geoff Bolton. The programme is as follows:
Prelude and Fugue in B minor BWV 544 by Johann Sebastian Bach
Three Chorale Preludes by Healey Willan
Le Banquet Celeste by Olivier Messiaen
Prélude-Choral and Allegro by Eugène Gigout

There will be another opportunity to experience sacred music on Thursday 29 May when the choir will be singing at a Choral Mass to mark Ascension Day. Music includes the Communion setting in F by Harold Darke and the anthem 'God is gone up' by Arthur Hutchings.
