Aquarelle Guitar Quartet
The highly acclaimed Aquarelle Guitar Quartet makes a welcome return to Perth Festival of the Arts.
In celebration of some of cinema’s most memorable musical moments and drawing on music from their acclaimed disc of film score arrangements, ‘Final Cut’, the highly acclaimed Aquarelle Guitar Quartet makes a welcome return. Renowned for its imaginative repertoire, spanning a wide range of styles, periods and cultures, the ensemble presents an evening of music featuring many of its most popular pieces, with an eclectic mix from the group’s highly praised Chandos CDs.
Highlights include Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence by Japanese composer Rhyuichi Sakamoto (written as the theme for the film starring David Bowie), award-winning music from films such as ‘Frida’, ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ and ‘Chocolat’ and their acclaimed arrangement of Catriona McKay’s The Swan LK243 (a beautiful, lilting folk song from Scotland). Rimsky-Korsakov’s familiar and exciting Capriccio Espagnol also makes an appearance, as does the electrically fast paced Tarantella.
“...this British ensemble seems incapable of playing less than a glorious range of sound, perfect ensemble, and exquisite taste. This is superb playing, and the music is ravishing.”
Kenneth Keaton – American Record Guide (reviewing ‘Final Cut')
