Frank Lloyd - horn & piano recital 2015

Friday 22nd May 2015

St John's Kirk of Perth, 19:30

This event was part of the 2015 Festival Programme.

Programme will include pieces by L.V. Beethoven, R.Strauss, F.Strauss, R.Schumann, Rheinberger and J.S.Bach.

Frank Lloyd played French Horn in the Royal Marines Band Service. In 1975 he left the services to embark on a course at the Royal Academy of Music as a pupil of Ifor James. Within three months, however, he was offered the position of Principal Horn with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and went on to play with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, the Nash Ensemble and the English Chamber Orchestra as Principal Horn. For several years he served as Professor of Horn at both the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity School of Music in London, and in 1998 was appointed Professor of Horn at the Essen Folkwang-Hochschule, where he succeeded the renowned Hermann Baumann. His achievements have been recognised by being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Music.

Frank Lloyd is accompanied by pianist Maxim Shamo, who was born in the North Caucasus, into a family with a longstanding professional musical tradition. He started studying piano at a very early age, at the Special Music College of the National Academy of Music in Kiev, Ukraine. He has studied around the world, with Prof. Ludger Maxsein at the Folkwang University of the Arts (Essen, Germany), Prof. Staffan Scheja (Stockholm, Sweden), and Prof. Willem Brons (Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
