Did you know that Scotland's church bells traditionally play tunes?
A carillon is a musical instrument of bells. Perth's 1935 Carillon in St John's Kirk features 35 bells spanning 3 octaves and is played from a large keyboard.
On Friday 23 May at the Festival, hear carillonneur Dr Ian Cassells play a variety of tunes on the bells of St John's Kirk. Listen for the magnificent bass bell (dating back to 1506) and the unique high notes - best heard from outside!
This Carillon forms part of the city's War Memorial; its smaller predecessor can be screen on the north side of the church spire.
Perth's carillonneur has performed in Britain and Europe, notably in Ieper/ Ypres to mark the end of WW1.
