Conducted by Yuri Botnari with pianist Freddy Kempf
Tchaikovsky Swan Lake Suite
Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3
Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition
Freddy Kempf is one of today’s most successful pianists, performing to sell-out audiences all over the world. Exceptionally gifted with an unusually broad repertoire, Freddy has built a unique reputation as an explosive and physical performer not afraid to take risks as well as a serious, sensitive and profoundly musical artist. Freddy came to national prominence in 1992, when he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition.
The Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1951 by Samuil Samosud, as the Moscow Youth Orchestra for young and inexperienced musicians, acquiring its current name in 1953. It is most associated with longtime conductor Kiril Kondrashin under whom it premiered Shostakovich's Fourth and Thirteenth symphonies as well as other works. Yuri Simonov has been the orchestra's principal conductor since 1998.
